Informed by historical and archaeological enquiry. I am interested in bodies of knowledge, particularly those understood and used by people in the past and how this persists through artefacts, constructions, place names, routes and folk lore. Current archaeological thinking embraces conceptual practice with direct observation, forensic science with moving earth and technological knowledge with imagination. I’m interested in the knowledge and skills of people in the past, how it developed and how it endures and the impact it continues to have on our lives.

Engaging directly with landscapes of interest, I regularly present the final work at the site of influence. This generates opportunities for a wider public to encounter the work and ask questions both of it and me. If they leave with a richer understanding of the place I count that as a success.
